Did you know that it is now illegal for any volunteer to commence working with children or vulnerable adults before successfully completing the Garda Vetting process? The National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act will provide a legislative basis for the mandatory vetting of persons who wish to undertake certain work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. Who will need to be Garda Vetted? What action should your club/facility take now? Whose responsibility is it to ensure vetting is carried out? South Dublin Co. and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership are organising a seminar ‘Garda Vetting Bill – Information Seminar for Sports Clubs/ Facilities’ on Monday 18th April from 7.00pm-9.00pm in Bewley’s Hotel in Leopardstown. This seminar will set out to answer questions such as these that many sport clubs, community and private sports facilities have. Experts from the Irish Sports Council and a national sporting body will outline the procedures required to ensure all appropriate volunteers and coaches are vetted, and to address any questions you may have.
