MICHAELS U14 GIRLS WIN DIVISION 2 FEILE TITLE The girls from the Bridge went to Cavan with only one thing on their mind to do themselves , their parents, their club and their county proud and they did so with grit, determination, and a pride not often seen in girls so young. The campaign began on Friday afternoon against the host side Lurgan and they won easily . Final score St Michaels 2-11 Lurgan 1-0. The next match was on Saturday morning vs. Latton Co Monaghan where they demolished the opposition 6-14 vs. 0-0.Next on the list was a very competent Athlone team who were well in the game until half time but some straight talking from the management Hugh Carr, and Anthony Gallagher which lifted the girls to a new dimension with the full forward Rachael the hero of the day scoring four class goals in fifteen minutes. Final score St Michaels 4-10 Athlone 1-5. Saturday afternoon they traveled to Mulahorran for the semi finals and met probably the strongest opposition Cill Ishael (Tyrone ) and the match went down to the wire. Final score St. Michaels 3-1 Cill Ishael 2-4. When the game went to extra time the Donegal girls had what it takes and scored 1-1 without reply . On Sunday a very tired bunch of girls traveled to Breffni to meet Kilmacud Crokes in the final and what a game it turned out to be with a low score ,some breathtaking excitement, and a result that will stay with us for the rest of lives. It was a very low scoring affair with some great defending by both sides and the defining moment was when a penalty rather harsly given against the St Michaels but our goalkeeper Mary B O'Donnell was the heroine of the day with a great , great save to end the match. Final score St. Michaels 1-2 Kilmacud Crokes 0-2.
