St. Nathy's club notes

On behalf of the Club we want to acknowledge and congratulate the Coolaney/ Mullinabreena GAA team on a very successful fundraising drive.  Over the past number of months various teams have been organizing events to raise money for the development of the grounds at Achonry.  The events came to a head on Saturday last in the Sligo Park Hotel at their finale night when they announced the total amount raised and out of the six gallant contestants who raised the most.  Congratulations to all the team members but imperticular the leaders in each, Johnny Rutledge, Caroline Coleman, Janette Marren, Padraig McHugh, Paddy O’Brien and John Brennan.  It was a remarkable  achievement for the teams given the times were in and the size of the community however they all rallied together for the same cause which undoubtedly proved successful.  Each one thanked all who had supported them along the way.  The quality of football is definitely evident in the parish and we now look forward to a better environment in Nace O’Dowd Park in the future.  Congratulations to all involved.

On the field we had two teams fighting for places in the Final.  The U14’s played a blinder of a game against St. Marys on Thursday last in Bunninadden.  Players gave 110% all over the field and emerged victorious but it was a fight to the final whistle.  The final score was 4.8 to 4.6.  The final is on Saturday 20th in Cloonacool against Eastern Harps.  Time to be confirmed.

The U16’s had another challenging game to contend with on a Sunday last.  Eastern Harps were the opposition on a very wet afternoon in Curry.  The Nathys girls got off to a great start and had most of the work done by the closing of the first half with a score line of 1.11 to 1.0.  The second have was no different they allowed Harps to creep back into the game but only for a short period as the girls grinded out a final score of 3.15 to 2.2.  This win secured them a place in the final against Geevagh on Monday 29th October, time and venue to be confirmed.

St. Nathys in association with the Sligo Sports Partnership are launching the MVP programme.  MVP meaning, Most Valuable People.  The aim is to provide an affordable social activity for Ladies, mums, volunteers and players, and in doing so acknowledging their contribution to community sport while also promoting the local Ladies Football Club in a positive light.  The class being hosted is “Boxercise” and it will be in St. Nathys Hall, Mullinabreena.  It will run over 6 weeks commencing 23rd October at 8.30pm in St. Nathys Hall, Mullinabreena.  The 6 sessions will cost €20.00 per person.  If this is something you might be interested in please contact Tracy O’Kennedy on 0874110568 or Louise O’Donnell on 0876356679 to add your details to the list.
