TESCO Homegrown All Ireland Club Semi-Finals Weekend

The Tesco Club Championships have entered the semi-final stages with some mouth-watering clashes in prospect this weekend. Wexford’s Shelmalier face Monaghan’s Donaghmoyne in Hollymount on Sunday whilst Cork’s Inch Rovers travel to face All Ireland Champions, Carnacon in Mayo.

Shelmalier enjoyed a hard fought victory over Foxrock-Cabinteely in the previous round and will again look to Wexford camogie star and captain Kate Kelly for inspiration. Kelly will be aided in a dangerous full forward line by county star, Leona Tector. The team are managed by LGFA president, Pat Quill, and will be looking for another disciplined defensive display against the highly rated Donaghmoyne attack.

Donaghmoyne will assume the mantle of favourites as they bring their star studded team to Wexford. They will look to All Star and team captain, Cathriona McConnell, to supply the scores for the Monaghan women. The Courtney sisters backbone the Monaghan side with Fiona, Joanne and Cora essential to stifling the Shelmalier attach whilst former All Star Sharon will act as the springboard for the attack from centre half back.

Carnacon will enjoy home advantage when they welcome Inch Rovers to Islandeady for the other semi-final on Sunday. They will look to their talisman, Cora Staunton, for the scores as the 8 time All Star leads the attack from the full forward position. Mayo star, Fiona McHale, will also be a constant threat to the Inch defence from centre half forward. Claire Egan will provide leadership from midfield whilst captain, Noelle Tierney, will marshal the Carnacon defence.

Inch Rovers bring an impressive panel of players to face the All Ireland champions and will hope that Anne Marie Walsh will be able to limit the impact of Cora Staunton but she will be able to rely on help from Cork star ,Angela Walsh at centre half back. Inch Rovers will hope that the their impressive full forward line including former All Stars Mary O’Connor and Amy Walsh will supply the scores for the Cork club whilst the midfield battle between Annie Walsh and Claire Egan could be one of the decisive battles in this eagerly anticipated meeting.
