TG4 Leinster
Intermediate Championship
Final

Emmet Park, Killoe, Co. Longford will host the TG4 Leinster Intermediate championship Final between Longford and Westmeath on Saturday next, when Joe Murray (Dublin) will start proceedings at 2pm.
The count down to the TG4 Leinster Intermediate championship final has begun, with Longford and Westmeath putting the final touch’s to their preparation. There has been a mixed history between these two sides over the past number of seasons.
Last year they met at the semi final stage in the TG4 Leinster Intermediate Championship, on that occasion it was Longford who were the victors by the narrowest of margins ( 0-9 to 0-8).The Longford ladies, Captained on the day by Elizabeth Brady went on to convincingly beat Wexford in the final, where they romped home with a comfortable twenty five point winning margin (4-19 to 0-7), Killoe’s Sharon Treacy receiving the player of the match award.
Longford and Westmeath were back in action in the knock out stages of the 2009 TG4 All Ireland Championship, and once again it was Longford that progressed to the All Ireland semi final with ten points to spare (2-11 to 0-7). However in a semi final game where they dominated, Longford let Fermanagh get their nose ahead in the dying minutes (1-10 to 2-11), to book their place in the all Ireland Final, losing out to Clare on the big day.
This season, Longford and Westmeath competed in Division three of the Bord Gáis Energy NFL , the sides clashed in round six back in March, with Longford claiming their third victory over Lake County (1-10 to 0-6), to finish in fourth place over all, having won three and drawing one. While Westmeath dropped in to the relegation zone managing only one win over Waterford.
Next weekend Westmeath will reflect on their excellent win over Waterford in the league, and they will be hoping to find that form when they meet Longford on Saturday next, While Longford, will be hoping to retain their title for the second year in succession.
