Underdogs Set For Date in New York

TG4’s ladies football version of the popular reality TV show Underdogs
returns to the airwaves in the next couple of weeks and it has been
revealed that the Underdogs will take on a New York All Star team
in Gaelic Park on the 24th November. The Underdogs who took on the
All Ireland Champions last season have been given a reprieve of
sorts and instead of facing a formidable triple All Ireland winning
Cork side they will head to the Big Apple to take on a New York
Select XV. The 30 unsung club footballers have been in training
for the last four months under the tutelage of Paidi O’Se, Jarlath
Burns, Martin McHugh and John O’Mahony. Former All Ireland winner
Sean O’Domhnaill and Geraldine Feerick have been charged with managing
the scratch side of wannabes.

The match between the Underdogs and New York will be broadcast live
on TG4 on Saturday 24th November. There are several key games taking
place in the Leinster Club Championships this weekend. Three quarter-finals
will be decided in the senior club championship with the clash of
the 2005 Senior Club All Ireland Champions Ballyboden St Enda’s
and Wexford’s Shelmalmier the tie of the weekend. Shelmalmier contributed
14 players to the county side which narrowly lost out to Leitrim
in the recent All Ireland Intermediate final and will be able to
call on the experience of former All Star Leona Trector. Ballyboden
have dominated Leinster football in recent years and the form of
Dublin stars Louise Kelly, Fiona Nic Chorcrain and Natalia Hyland
will be central to the side’s chances of progressing to the next
round.

Last year’s Junior All Ireland Club Champions Eadestown from Kildare
face Royal Gales of Meath in the quarter-finals of the Leinster
Intermediate Club Championships.
