Tyrone
Squad cut for Waterford Tie

Tyrone ladies manager John McAleer has cut his
squad to 24 for Sundays Suzuki National Football
League tie in Dublin against Waterford, but the
management team have confirmed, come the end of
the league campaign a panel of 30 will be named
for the start of the Ulster Championship.

McAleer and coach Ryan Cunningham have however
indicated that further players will be added through
the current campaign and all players will have
there chance to impress ahead of the “final cut”
for the championship. “Players have been working
hard since November we have been impressed by
what we have seen but feel now is the right time
to make changes, we have to take a look at other
players too and in a competitive scenario, last
weekends Dowd cup threw up some players that deserve
a crack on the inter county stage and through
the league campaign these players will have there
day” claimed the Tyrone coach

Waterford are an experienced panel and Cunningham
admitted Tyrone will have to be at their best
if they are to add to the two points collected
prior to Christmas, a defeat 3-6 to 0-7 points
against Roscommon was a blow to the Tyrone management
and they have called for the players to show more
hunger. Tyrone go into the game, yes with a reduced
squad but with a fully fit panel to select from.
Waterford officials meanwhile tried to have the
tie fixed for Offaly earlier this week after Tyrone
had already made arrangements, the Tyrone county
board and management stood firm and the game goes
ahead in Dublin as planned.

Meanwhile ahead of the minor championship the
Tyrone management will hold further trials this
Sunday at the Mid-Ulster arena at Loughrea the
trials start at 11am and players are advised to
bring trainers or moulded studs, no steel studs
are permitted on the surface. Players from last
years panel and players who are up to standard
for this years panel should report for 11am.
