Under 11 Division 5 League Final

VENUE: St Laurence’s
DATE: Saturday 31st October 2009 TIME : 9:45 AM

Two Mile House 2 – 7 Athgarvan 1 – 0

HALF-TIME Two Mile House 1 – 3 Athgarvan 0 – 0

A great competitive game between these 2 neighbours in St Laurence’s on Saturday morning was decided by the better score-taking of the Two Mile House young Ladies. Referee Ciara Fingleton entered into the spirit of the contest, showing great empathy to the youngsters who responded with gritty displays from both teams. Athgarvan had plenty of possession but found the House defence hard to break down as Lauren Breen, Melissa Monaghan and Córa Moloney starred. At Midfield Rachel Collins and Tara Breen excelled and Tara also top scorer showing great accuracy from play and frees. Athgarvan relied heavily on the Farrell’s, Katie and Laura and Caelin van der Hoven in defence while Samantha Cullen was brilliant but too often she was much deeper than her centre forward listing as she assisted in defence and midfield but the star of the match was one of the smallest on the field, Athgarvan goalkeeper Nikka Carey, who stopped bullets in a fearless display of excellence.
In attack Two Mile House were that bit stronger with Aine O’Connor, Ciara Kiely and Lauren Mullins showing up well while Athgarvan relied on Jennifer Kelly, Holly Hensey and Alanah Burke to support Samantha in attack while Aiveen Treacy and goal scorer Kayleigh Humphries played very well at midfield. Much more will be heard of this young Athgarvan team, most of whom will be under age again next year while Jason Morris, Ciara Byrne and Aisling Lambe will surely stick around to pass on their expertise.
With their first venture into Ladies Football proving so successful Two Mile House can be expected to follow the lead of their boy’s teams who have brought such success to the club in the last few years. A welcome new addition to the Ladies Football family and Pat Moloney will surely want to follow up his initial success.
