Under 15 Division 4 League Final Venue: Ballykelly Date: Saturday 31 October 2009, Time 3:30pm Rathangan 1 – 8 Robert Emmett’s 0 – 6 Score at Half Time: Rathangan 0 – 6 Robert Emmett’s 0 – 1 The girls from Rathangan and Robert Emmett’s braves hail and rain and both came in torrents to battle out a great Under 15 Final in Ballykelly last Saturday. Referee Shaun Duane had delayed the start as the hail storm struck with the teams lined up and ready for the throw up. Soon after the game started the rain arrived but nothing could quell the enthusiasm of these brave young footballers and some as young as 12 on both teams. After Eadaoin Connolly pointed a Rathangan free Robert Emmett’s dominated for a long spell, missing some easy chances they would later regret before full forward Sinead Gavin pointed to level matters. Eadaoin got her second point soon after and then with half time approaching Rathangan hit a point a minute in a great 4 minute spell. Eadaoin got 3 of these while Carol Moloney who had moved to full forward when Zoe Gorry was introduced got the last to put her team 5 points to the good at the break. This was rough justice on Robert Emmett’s who had dominated the centre of the park through the efforts of Amy Gallagher at centre half back, Sarah Conway and the excellent Ciara Lawlor at midfield and the hard grafting Hannah Babs on the 40 but the accuracy was lacking in front of the posts. After Eadaoin Connolly and Hannah Babs exchanged points on the resumption a second Carol Moloney points and a Captains goal from Georgina Broughan had Rathangan 9 points clear entering the last quarter. As both teams introduced their subs Robert Emmett’s suddenly found their range with Ciara Lawlor, Shauna O’Brien and Romy Morrin firing over points and Rathangan came under severe pressure. Goalkeeper Sharon Fox saved her side as she stopped 3 goal efforts while also clearing a few other dangerous situations while full back Kelsey Mulpeter-Perry also rescued cleared under severe pressure with able assistance from Sandra Lussett and Helena Murphy as Eadaoin Connolly and Emma Kearney dropped deep to assist the last ditch defence effort .Others to shine fro Rathangan were Aisling Cullen, Heather Burke, Stephannie Mooney and Naomi Watts. Robert Emmett’s also had in the cool Jemma Treacey, an excellent goalkeeper. Emma Fitzsimons, Katherine O’Hara and Amy Gallagher lead a fine defence. Sarah Conway and Ciara Lawlor did a lot of good work at midfield while they were hard workers up front in Hannah Babs, Romy Morrin and Sinead Gavin while Shauna O’Brien found her form and scoring touch late on and Amy O’Connor impressed when introduced late in the game but her fitness level could improve.
