Okay, so Longford were in the “B” championship at Under 14, 16 and Minor but they did win the Leinster Minor “B” last year fairly handily and were touted as a progressing outfit. Saturday told another tale. With a midfield that were totally dominant Kildare had the game won in five minutes. A major boast to the “Lilies” has been the emergence as a footballer of Louise Keatley. A brilliant Camogie player, Louise has only been playing Club football for two years and never player Under 14 or Under 16, for a club never mind county. She has the fielding ability and mobility to make the grade and if she can continue to successfully juggle her Camogie and football commitments she can really make an impact. The Senior League continued on Sunday and the result of the Confey v Grangenovlan game will make many take notice. Having narrowly lost the League Final last term Confey were expected to give the Champions a hot reception in Creighton Park. A twenty one point win is some marker for the year. While Grangenovlan were short a few, notably Brianne Leahy, they will have it all to do if they are to recover as Eadestown and Leixlip will also want a piece of the action. Leixlip following their midweek draw with Confey had a decent six point win over Maynooth for whom Anto Mooney slotted an excellent goal. Now that Therese Martin has headed for Australia the full forward spot on the Kildare Senior “B” side would entice Anto back to White. Sunday evening saw a highly exciting game in Eadestown. The drama started even before the game when Referee Tom Gordon was stranded and at ten minutes notice the intending spectator Willie Sargent was called into action. The drama continued and a late late Sarsfields goal gave them a share of the spoils. Ballykelly suffered another heavy defeat in Division 2 when St Laurences visited and the other exiles from Division 1, Athgarvan, also lost their second game albeit by a narrow margin, Clane 5 – 5 Athgarvan 4 – 7. Suncroft and Naas continued their history of high scoring encounters with Suncroft ten points better on this occasion while the Eadestown second string collected the points with an even more emphatic win over Na Fianna. Division 3 saw Kilcullen overcome Rathangan in a two point game. Kilcullen are flying but Rathangan to be getting it together by the look of the 3- 6 to 3-4 scoreline. In Division 4 Balyna had another victory by their second team but Rheban will be encouraged by scoring a nice 2- 6 in faraway Clogherinkoe while Ballymore Eustace continued their bright start to the season with a good away win over Castledermot. Next week end sees the focus turn to Under Age as the Seniors take the Easter week-end off. The last round of Under 16 Fixtures in Divisions 2 & 3 are listed for Saturday. The scheduled Rounds of Division 1 have been completed although there might just be one or two postponed gamed to be played. Friday and Saturday could be busy then and Saturday also sees the kick-off of the Under 12 competition, again it’s the Division with extra rounds, Division 3 and the brand new Division 4 while Easter Monday had a full list of Under 14 games. With all that hectic action out of the way it will be down to serious business for the County Under 14 & Under 16 squads who will have their first Leinster Championship games the following Saturday, April 14th.
