Over 25 Ladies Blitz

Over 25 Ladies Blitz

Currow were the big winners at the inaugural Over 25 seven a side blitz in Kilcummin on Saturday. In all 4 teams took part in a round robin structure that placed Currow and Kenmare in the final of the Dan Barry Cup while John Mitchels faced off against hosts Kilcummin in the Pat Lawlor Shield. The Competition was organised to meet the growing demand of football for Ladies over 25 and in the soaring sunshine players were put against the testing heat as each team played 80 minutes of almost non stop action.

Currow owed their Cup victory to a first half where they built a 2-1 to 0-2 lead over Sneem/Kenmare. The long afternoon seemed to catch them in the last 10mins as Sneem/Kenmare outscored their opponents by 3 points to one but Currow held on to win 2-2 to 0-5 points at the death.

In the Shield Final Kilcummin had to come back from a point down at the break to finally get the run on Ann Eagers John Mitchels side. Mitchels and Kilcummin who played out a tense round robin game which Kilcummin won served up an equally fascinating first half with Mitchels 1-2 to 1-1 ahead, before Kilcummins greater ability to get goals set them well clear at the final whistle.

Such was the success of the day plans are already on the way for another Over-25 blitz to be held in August.
