Although we run teams in various sports and age groups this year the club is putting a bigger emphasis on the role of women in the club. At our AGM we set up a women’s committee who will be looking at raising the profile of ladies football, ladies shinty and camogie within the club and reaching out to the wider community through school coaching programmes. At the beginning of June the club is organising the first Glasgow women’s celtic sports festival, which will feature the three previously mentioned codes. The weekend will include coaching courses, exhibition matches and schools challenge games, rounding off with a ceili. We would be delighted to hear from clubs or individuals interested in coming over for the festival. Further details will appear from time to time on our club web site www.conaill.fsnet.co.uk. Although we have had ladies football in the club for two years it is only now really beginning to show signs off taking off with reasonable attendances at our weekly sessions at the Cartha Queens Park Rugby club, in Glasgow, every Friday night, at 7pm. The team is made up of Irish women working or studying in Glasgow along with a few young Scots who have come through the club’s underage structure. Although the team does get the odd game against University teams they really look forward to hosting clubs from Ireland. It is also been the members experience that there are a lot of players around Glasgow who don’t know of the club existence. We would be grateful if you could spread the word. You can contact us through our full time development worker, Tommy Main, on 0044141 221 4553 or e-mail tom@conaill.fsnet.co.uk. The club’s annual awards dinner is in the Holiday Inn City West, Glasgow, on Saturday 28th April. Further details on this can be found on the website also. Share this Article 0 0
