The 2014 Ladies Gaelic Football Association National Congress came to a close today after 3 days of refection, debate and discussion in the Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford. The final act of congress was the election of a new president and there were three very high quality candidates for the role. After Marie Hickey, Con Moynihan and Gerry Doherty delivered their addresses to the congress the business of voting for the new president took place and he result was that Marie Hickey from Laois was selected for the position which she will officially take over from Pat Quill at the 2015 National Congress. The National Congress got underway on Friday with the vote taking place over whether to join the GAA and Camogie Association in entering discussions with a view to becoming one association. On Saturday the financial report for the association revealed that gate receipts for 2013 had shown an impressive 30% rise on the previous year which was a fantastic result. Also, the motion was passed allowing for a second sponsor to appear on the sleeves of jerseys which will help teams generate more income which will be a boost in these difficult times.
