08 December 2022 2022 match officials honoured at Grand Hotel, Malahide Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! AT a special event last Saturday evening, December 3, we were delighted to host a special function to honour our match officials who oversaw our key national fixtures in 2022. This event was held at the Grand Hotel, Malahide, and was a most enjoyable evening. LGFA President, Mícheál Naughton, was present to welcome all guests on the evening, and present them with the various awards. The match officials who took charge of the year’s biggest LGFA fixtures mingled freely on the night – while retiring referees Keith Delahunty (Tipperary) and Yvonne Duffy (Cavan) were also honoured for their years of outstanding service. From the Premier County of Tipperary, we acknowledged the outstanding contribution of Keith Delahunty. A referee for 35 years, Keith has been an LGFA referee for 35 of those, starting off at local level before moving on to provincial and national levels. Keith enjoyed a number of big days throughout his career, including fourth official roles for TG4 All-Ireland Finals at Croke Park, and he was referee for the 2008 All-Ireland Minor Final between Dublin and Tyrone. Keith took charge of his first Munster Final back in 2005 and has travelled the world representing the LGFA family. Keith notes that the Association has grown enormously since he started refereeing and he has forged friendships to last a lifetime. You can be sure that Keith will help out in any way that he can in the future – and he will remain a regular fixture at Ladies Football games – on the other side of the white line! From the Mullahoran club in county Cavan, Yvonne Duffy played Ladies Football at all levels and went on to enjoy a long and successful refereeing career. Yvonne’s refereeing experience began in 2003 and her first big milestone was the Aisling McGing tournament Final between Dublin and Cork in 2010. Yvonne cites refereeing at Croke Park in 2011 and 2014 as very special occasions, and she also refereed the final of a schools competition that she herself won a medal in back in 1996. Yvonne has also travelled the world with the LGFA – with assignments abroad including trips to the USA, Canada, the UK, Dubai and Al Ain. Yvonne was also delighted to form part of an all-female group of match officials for the 2020 TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship Final. Yvonne says that the Association is “unrecognisable” now compared to when she started out – and she has promised to continue refereeing at club and provincial levels. https://ladiesgaelic.ie/galleries/2022-match-official-presentation-evening/ To view a gallery of images from the evening, via Maurice Grehan, please click HERE or on the link above.
