AIB claimed another LGFA Interfirms Cup title at the GAA’s National Games Development Centre at the Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown, on Saturday. Captained by former Cork star Annie Walsh, winner of eight TG4 All-Ireland Senior medals during her inter-county playing days, AIB got the better of Boston Scientific by 3-10 to 3-4 in the Final. But AIB were back with a bang this year and after seeing off PWC (1) at the semi-final stage, they eventually got the better of a gallant Boston Scientific, who defeated PWC (2) in the semi-finals. AIB captain and former Cork star Annie Walsh is chased by PWC’s Maria Kinsella during their 2023 LGFA Interfirms clash O’Brien and Lisa Gorman netted in the first half for AIB as they led by 2-5 to 1-3 at the break, with O’Brien adding her second goal after the interval to quell a spirited Boston Scientific fightback. “Delighted to be here,” Harvey said. “You’re networking and getting to play with other people within the organisation. It’s great. “This was my first year to play and that we’ve had a team since Covid. “You’d know these people (team-mates) by faces and it’s getting to really know them. It’s a great day out and delighted to be a part of it.” Amy Wilson lifts the Shield, surrounded by Zurich Insurance team-mates, following victory over An Post Insurance in a thrilling Shield decider. Shield honours on the day went to Zurich Insurance, who overcame An Post Insurance 2-0 on kicks. The game finished level after normal time, with Zurich registering 6-3 to An Post’s 4-9. Zurich’s outstanding captain, Amy Wilson, collected the Shield from Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Mícheál Naughton, after the game. Seven teams competed in the competitive section of the Interfirms blitz, while 13 teams signed up for the recreational blitz.
