All Ireland 7 a side

 

In all 83 teams made their way to the Naomh Mearnog/St
Sylvester’s club grounds for the Annual All Ireland club 7 a side
competition. Despite the mixed weather conditions of rain and wind,
yet again the football on show was of the highest quality.

 

In the Senior competition 25 teams battled it out with Ballymacarbry
in the end lifting the title for the 6th time. For the third consecutive
year Wexford club Shelmalier were to be the defeated finalists.
The Shield honours falling to Seneschalstown of Meath with victory
over Galway side St Brendan’s.

 

Kilkenny outfit Railyard held off the challenge of 27 other teams
to lift the Intermediate title. In the final they beat Cappawhite
of Tipperary. There was to be joy for Tipp in the Shield with Brian
Borus coming out on top against Inch Rovers (Cork).

 

There was no less excitement in the Junior tournament with 30 teams
in action. At the finish it was a thrilling decider with Milltown
(Galway) holding off Monaghan side Emyvale by two points. The Shield
honours went to Eadestown (Kildare) after victory over Roscommon
side Kilglass Gaels.
