When these two sides met at the Gaelic Grounds Limerick
two weeks ago many neutrals insisted that Cork were fortunate to
escape with a draw.

Move it on to Birr on Saturday for the replay and there was simply
only going to be one winner. Cork were simply awesome going forward
and unerring in accuracy from both play and placed ball. Senior
star and player of the match Amanda Murphy raised her game further
from the last day and was simply majestic in all that she did finishing
with a personal tally of 13 points. From the moment Rhona Buckley
goaled in the 5th minute following great approach play from Siobhan
Forde & Amanda

Murphy Cork were in the ascendancy. With the defence superbly marshalled
by captain and full back Anita Thompson Galway got precious little
chance to trouble goalkeeper Orlaith Murphy. Indeed apart from Galway
captain Caitriona Cormican the Galway attack failed to ignite with
danger woman Michelle Delaney being well held. At half time Cork
led 1.11 to 0.03. 

The second half simply saw Cork consolidate their half time lead
with Ciara O’Sullivan acting as sweeper behind the Cork half back
line. The Mourneabbey player, like many of her colleagues, covered
every inch of the pitch to ensure a deserved victory for the Rebel’s.
Indeed Cork could have had a second goal when , following excellent
work from Deirdre Cotter & Amanda Murphy, Rhona Buckley was
denied by a superb save from keeper Claire Brennan. In the end
Cork ran out comfortable winners and brought the minor title back
to Leeside for the 3rd time in the last 4 years.
