TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship

Armagh v  Meath

Kingspan Breffni Park, (26th July ’09)

Throw in 6:45pm.

Referee: Liam McDonagh ( Sligo ).

Match will be shown live on TG4
Meath travel to Kingspan Breffni Park to take on Armagh in their 1st  round qualifying game,  Meath lost out Dublin in the first round of the TG4 Leinster senior Championship. Brendan Dardis and his charges have had time to regroup and prepare for their visit to Breffni Park, and the Meath side will be determined to get back to winning ways as they set out on the road to Croker.
Armagh, suffered at the hands of Tyrone in the first round of the Ulster Championship, but the Orchard county are equally determined to get over the first hurdle in the TG4 All Ireland senior championship.
It’s two years since the sides last met, and it was the Armagh side that were the victors on that occasion with a two point winning margin, however, Sundays game would be hard one to call, But I’ll go for the Royals by a narrow margin.

TG4 Intermediate Championship Group A

Wexford v Cavan

Wexford Park. (26th July ’09)

Throw in 15.00
Referee: Michael John O Keefee ( Cork )
Wexford play host to Cavan on Sunday next in Wexford Park, this will be the model counties third game in this years all Ireland Intermediate championship, and unfortunately, to date they have failed to register a win, with loss’s to Fermanagh and Clare, and if form books are correct, the Breffni’s have drew one and won one, and on paper they are favourites to bag all three points.
But, this is championship football, and this young Wexford side are capable of causing an upset  by turning the tables on the Breffni ladies on Sunday next.

TG4 Junior Championship Group B

Derry v Wicklow

Faughanvale. (26th July ’09)
Throw in 15.00
Referee: John Niland ( Sligo )

On Sunday next Wicklow will make the long journey to Faughanvale, deep in the heart of county Derry, to go head to head with the host county in round two of the all Ireland junior championship.
Wicklow did not get their all Ireland campaign off to the best of starts, having been beaten in round one by Louth in Blessington on the 12th of July, however they did lock horns with the Wee county on Sunday last (19th July) in the TG4 Leinster Junior championship final, with the game ending in a draw (2-3 to 1-6), and although the Garden county’s forwards only scored one point from play, they seemed to have re-ignited the spark that had been missing in recent games.
Derry suffered a heavy defeat to Roscommon (2-11 to 0-5) in the semi finals of the Borg Gais Energy NFL, while Wicklow were unlucky to lose to Roscommon in the division three  final 1-12 to 1-8.
But the Oak leaf ladies are off to a flyer in their bid to reach an all Ireland final, with an eight point win over Offaly (2-5 to 0-19), and their nineteen point score line is proof that, the goals will come, but its  points that win games, and the Wicklow forwards are more than capable of notching up points, in fact in their last three games against the Oak Leaf county, Wicklow registered a total of twenty nine points and six goals.
In the previous three meetings between these two sides, Derry have won two out of three, their most recent victory was in Magiligan back in March of this year in the NFL, where they beat Wicklow by the narrowest of margin 3-6 to 1-11, however on Sunday next the Garden County can not afford to let another result slip from their grasp, if they are to have any chance of reaching an  all Ireland Junior Final, and take a step closer to represent Wicklow in Croke Park. TG4 Junior Championship Group B

Louth v Offaly

Fr. McEvoy Park , Cooley. (26th July ’09)
Throw in 15.00
Referee: Maggie Farrelly (Cavan)
Louth go in to this game against Offaly on the back of a convincing win over Wicklow in their first round qualifying game, while Offaly were beaten by Derry in their first game in this years TG4 all Ireland  Junior championship campaign.
Both sides last met in the Bord Gais Energy NFL and the Wee county had  five points to spare over the Faithful County on that occasion.
Louth will be with out Gillian McDonnell for the remainder of the season, McDonnell is awaiting an operation for a cruciate ligament injury received against Wicklow in their first round game. The St. Geraldines club player will be a big loss to Louth manager Dermot Agnew. Sunday game should be a competitive game with Offaly looking to kick start their campaign, while Louth will be going all out to keep up their one hundred percent record intact.
