All-Ireland Sevens Round Up

All
Ireland Seven’s Round Up

Eighty-Four
teams from across Ireland, London, Canada and Australasia descended
on the grounds of Naomh Mearnog and St Sylvester’s for the annual
all Ireland seven’s competitions. With over 1000 players battling
it out for the honours it was no surprise that the football on
show was of the highest quality. In the Senior competition thirty
teams took part, that were split into six groups with the top
side advancing to the cup and second place to the Shield. Making
their way into the finals stages of the cup as group winners went
Tyholland, Corofin, Clonee, Shelmaliers, Ballyboden and Knockbride.

Tyholland and Clonee went straight into the last four where they
came head to head with Tyholland winning out and into the final.
Corofin faced Shelmaliers in the other semi-final after their
victories over Knockbride and Ballyboden respectively with the
Wexford girls coming out on top. So it was down to the last two
and it looked good at the break for the Monaghan side as they
led by 4-03 to 2-05. However runners up last year Shelmaliers
fought back to draw level early into the second half. Yet Tyholland
finished the stronger and won the title on a final score of 6-06
to 3-08.

The Senior shield went to Ballmacarbry after they defeated Donaghmoyne.
The Waterford sides victory also seen Catriona Casey collect her
22nd All Ireland medal. In the Intermediate grade twenty six sides
battled it out for honours. In the end Park Ratheniska (Laois)
were the victors by overcoming Downpatrick in a cracking decider.
The shield honours went to Cappawhite of Tipperary.

At Junior Level Kerry side Laune Rangers held off the challenge
of twenty seven other teams to win the Junior title. In the final
they beat Kildare side Eadestown. The Shield honours went to St
Peregrines (Dublin) after they defeated St Ailbes (Limerick).
