Erin’s Own starlet Emily O’Callaghan was the destroyer
in chief as Cork captured the u 14 All Ireland title at a sun drenched
Birr on Saturday.

The Cork girls were simply in a league of their own for much of
this encounter as they took the game to Dublin from the throw-in.
The opening half produced an abundance of scores, with O’Callaghan
setting the pattern with a goal on the 2nd minute. The quality of
supply reaching the Erin’s Own full forward was of the highest standard
with Kinsale’s Orla Finn & Bantry Blue’s Niamh Crowley assisting
superbly. Despite constant Cork pressure Dublin refused to throw
in the towel and goals from Ciara Donovan, Aisling King & Nicole
Owens saw Cork lead 6.04 to 3.03 at the short whistle. 

Expectations were high among the sizeable crowd that Dublin would
come at Cork in the second half but it was not the case. Having
attempted to shackle O’Callaghan the Dublin mentors overlooked
her team mate and player of the match Ciara Sherlock at centre
forward and were made to rue their costly mistake. The Liscarroll
girl was simply irresistible in the final quarter of the match
hitting a hat trick of goals to steer Cork to victory.
