Latest Wicklow News: Despite losing to Eire Óg in the shock result of the weekend Clara remain top of the junior league on 14 points. Clara were determined to bounce back after their championship disappointment but came up against a rejuvenated Eire Óg who have put their poor start to the season firmly behind them. They took this match by two points, 4-7 to 3-8, with Maria ONeill, Emma Leonard and Caoimhe Ni Suilleabhain in excellent form. Eire Óg also welcomed back defender Mide Ni Suilleabhain and with recent wins over Newtown and Donard they are hitting good form in time to challenge in the league. Scorers for Clara were Maria Hogan 1-4, Helen Heffernan 1-1, Carrie Gahan 1-0, Sabrina Dunne, Neasa Olohan, and Karen Kennedy 0-1 each. A rklow Geraldines / Ballymoney responded to their Leinster Championship disappointment with two comprehensive victories over Kilcoole (3-9 to 0-7) and Newtown. This leaves them in second place in the table, with 12 points from a possible 14. Despite their defeat to Arklow, Kilcoole are still lying joint third with only six matches played. They are followed by Baltinglass who had a good 5-point win over neighbours Donard. Newtown have not yet managed a win, but put in a good performance recently against Eire Óg, where Monica Lynch and Lisa Farrell had good games in midfield and Janet Nolan and Vikki OToole also played well. Scorers for Eire Óg were Leah Horan 1-3, Laurie Ahern 2-0, Caolfhinn Deeny 0-2 and Tracy OHalloran 0-2. One other notable event of the weekend was the debut match of the countys newest club, Shillelagh ladies. The match was played in appalling conditions on Sunday and it was a credit to both sides that they managed to produce an entertaining game. Bray played with a strong wind in the first half and led 3-4 to no score at the break. Valleymount then came right back into the game after the turnaround and scored 1-4 to Brays single second half point. They owned the ball for much of the half with Janet Miley and Debbie Green in good form but just could not force enough scores. The highlight of the game was Elaine Caseys sweetly taken goal, lobbing Bray keeper Christine Murphy from thirty yards.
