Corofin v Carnacon A super week of Ladies football will come to a end next Sunday when Corofin and Carnacon face up for the Connacht Senior Club title in Corofin at 2.00pm. This fine week started last Sunday when Grainne Mhaols Galway defeated Geevagh Sligo on a score line of 4-5 to 2-9. This game was a thrilling close encounter with Lisa Cohill’s leadership qualities helped inspire her team mates and in doing so earned her the player of the match and the AIB Junior Connacht club title. They now must travel to Kerry for the Semi final on November 7th to play Munster Champions Anneydorney. Meanwhile Aughawillian, Leitrim took on St Brigid’s of Roscommon in their home ground. This was a game that swayed and turned like a windy road both side’s had numerous chances but blasted wide. St Brigid’s looked to be in control up until the 45th minute but Aughawillian’s Quinn sisters worked tirelessly in all areas of the field and brought the teams on level par but a minute to go St Brigid’s hit the back of the Aughawillian net. Final score to Capture the 2004 Intermediate Connacht club title Aughawillian 3-4 St Brigids 2-9. An appreciative excited Orla Gavin recived the player of the match. To round off a great week of Ladies Football the AIB senior club title is to be decided in Corofin on Sunday next 24th of October. Carnacon the supreme team of Connacht Club over the past five years will be favourites going into this match. Led by Cora Staunton, Claire Egan, McGing girls and many more County talents who will be pumping pressure on a Corofin team hamperd with injuries but never the less an abundance of talent. Corofin have nine County panellists and are sure to lift the game to Carnacon especially on Home ground. On the day good local support is expected. Weather permitting this will be a classic. In 2003 Corofin had Carnacon on the rack in their home ground of Clougher but a superb individual display by Cora Staunton saw them capture the Title by a single point.
