Ladies National Football League Round 1 Armagh 2-14 Clare 1-04 Armagh got their 2010 campaign of to an excellent start, travelling to Ennis to beat All Ireland intermediate champions Clare on a score line of 2-14 to 1-04. Clare got off to a dream start with Eimear Considine finishing their first attack to the net. Three Aoife Lennon points had the Orchard back on level terms after great work by Caroline O'Hare, Marian McGuinness and Kelly Mallon. A Sinead Sexton point put her side back in front once again but a brace of points fro Kelly Mallon and one from Derrynoose's Aoife Lennon on the stroke of half time put Armagh in front for the first time on a score line of 0-6 to 1-2. In the second half Armagh dominated from the throw up. Sharon Reel was introduced for Laura Forker and she immediately made her presence felt. Paula Powell was inspirational, breaking up Clare attacks and launching Armagh runs. Caroline O'Hare opened the scoring with a free following a foul on Kelly Mallon. Maria O'Donnell added another point following good play by Caitlin Malone and Aoife Lennon. Clare were finding it difficult to break through the Armagh rearguard with Rebecca O'Reilly, Dervla Mallon and Caoimhe Morgan allowing them no way through. Sharon Reel added to Armagh's scoring with a point before Sinead McCleary drove forward from wing back to cancel an Eimear Considine point and restore Armagh's four point advantage. Considine converted another for her side but amazingly this was to be the Banner girls last score. The introduction of Mags McAlinden, Shauna O'Hagan and Clodagh McCann along with Armagh's superior fitness saw them totally blitz Clare in the closing stages. Shauna O'Hagan marked her introduction with two points in the space of a minute. Sharon Reel and Mags McAlinden added to the scores before an O'Hagan goal put Armagh ten points to the good. Eimear Considine continued to threaten for Clare but tenacious defending from Dervla Mallon ensured no way through. A Mags McAlinden goal on the stroke of full time gave the score board an extra gloss as Armagh finished on a score line of 2-14 to 1-04. Armagh will play at home next week in a double header in Crossmaglen so support is encouraged.
