Banner Ladies Football Club Ennis Press Release 12/01/2008

Multiple All Ireland medallist and All Star winner Cora Staunton of Mayo will be the guest of honour at the Banner Ladies Football Club’s gala banquet and medals presentation night in the West County Hotel Ennis on Friday, January 18th.

Perhaps Ireland’s most celebrated ladies Gaelic footballer Cora will present medals to the Banner’s U-12A, U-14A, Clare Féile, U-16A and Junior winning teams from the 2007 season.  In all ten trophies will be on display at Friday evening’s function including the Munster and All Ireland B U-16 trophies presented to Clare captain and club member Niamh Martin along with trophies won by our club teams last season.

Tickets for Friday night’s event will be available up to Thursday evening from the club secretary Dr. Paul McKenna (086-6036385) and are also available for purchase at Coote’s Shop, Kilrush Road, Ennis.  Adult tickets are €25.00 and U-16’s €15.00.  Music for the evening will be provided by the fabulous Atomic Chickens (as seen on Podge & Rodge).

Winning club captains for the 2007 season were Sharon Bradley (Junior League), Rachel Hobbs (Junior Championship), Shonagh Enright (U-16A), Laurie Ryan (Féile), Niamh O’Dea (U-14A) and Orlaith Lynch (U-12A).

The Banner Ladies 2007/08 Club Yearbook will also be launched on the night and will be available for sale at €5.00 per copy.  The Yearbook will again be a popular record of all club activities during 2007 and will feature articles and photographs outlining the year’s events at the club.  In 2007 club teams visited Dromahair and Manorhamilton in Co. Leitrim and to Kilmacud Crokes, Ballyboden St. Enda’s and Naomh Mearnóg Portmarnock in Dublin.  The Banner also welcomed the Tullamore Ladies Club to Ennis this past season and will shortly be paying a return visit to the Co. Offaly club.

The Banner Ladies Club was also honoured in 2007 to have three club members, Orlaith Lynch, Linda Manton and Suzy O’Shea selected to represent Clare on the TG4 GAA inter-county skills television programme series Scil.  The girls featured on three episodes reaching the quarter finals and did both their club and their county proud through their camogie and football skills and their fluency in the Irish language.

These and other events of the year will be recalled in both the Yearbook and at the Gala Banquet on Friday.  Please ensure that you have reserved your ticket as their will be no tickets for sale on the night.
