Beara Blitz rivals to take Munster title. By Fr. Liam Kelleher

A few weeks ago Beara Community school looked very impressive in capturing the Cork schools first Year Blitz at Carrignavar. On Tuesday last they continued their rich vein of form by winning the Munster title at Ballincollig. Ably led by their Cork and club star Amanda Murphy who was superb all through they won all their preliminary games with ease.

In a very entertaining and high scoring game they defeated Colaiste Na Sceillige Caherciveen on a scoerline of 9-09 to 5-06. St Michael’s Kilmihill from Clare took the ‘B’ Title at the expense of St Josephs Doon, while the ‘C’crown went to John the Baptist Hospital who got the better of the girls from Cahir. It was a tremendous day sport. Great credit is due to Balincollig GAA club for providing their excellent facilities.

Exam time
Activity will be very limited at Co Level for the next few weeks with exams in progress. It will give Divisions an opportunity to run their under 12 and 14 competitions. We wish all those doing exams at 2nd and 3rd level the very best.

Mourenabbey ladies Celebrate in style.
One of the most active and progressive clubs in Ladies Football, Mourneabbey, celebrated in style at the Hazel Tree on Saturday night. The ‘American Tea Party’ style celebration attracted a huge crowd of 300 plus and as well as providing a wonderful social evening it also provided a much needed injection of funds for the very active club. Pride of place went to the Junior B Team who won the Co Championship last year and to the many girls who have represented Cork teams in the past year. Most charming and efficient Chairperson Noreen O’Sullivan welcomed all the guests and enlivened the evening, doing an excellent job as MC. The Junior team were presented with their medals and their mentors Con O’Sullivan, Ina O’Sullivan and Timmy O’Callaghan were thanked for their commitment to the team and other teams in the club and were recipients of TV presentations for their efforts. One begins to wonder with their busy schedules and their huge input to the sport where they can find time to watch TV. Noreen herself was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Local PP Fr. Jackie Corkery had his usual bundle of wisecracks and while he never played Ladies Football he commended everyone involved and commended the great work they were doing for the youth of the parish. Co Chairman Steven Lynch gave great praise to the club and to their input into the Co Board and to all the girls from the club who play with Cork and to Con O’Sullivan Manager of the Cork under 16 team recent Munster Champions. In presenting awards to members of the Cork All-Ireland winning under 14 team for the 3rd year in a row, Justin McCarthy manager complimented the girls on their dedication and excellent behaviour.

Fr Liam Kelleher was also loud in his praise of the efforts of the club and particularly thanked the club in their fundraising efforts last year for the Aidan Con O’Sullivan Fund. When all the formalities were completed a great nights dancing was had to the strains of Just Us.
