Board Gais National League

Tipperary ladies drove the long journey from Tipperary to the Down venue, Saval for last Saturdays game. They arrived in numbers with one aim in mind to avenge last years National League final defeat at the hands of Down.

In contrast the home side’s small panel was further depleted when Hannah Murray sustained an injury during the warm- up.

Down started well getting the better of the exchanges. Kyla trainor (0-1) led from the front linking good combinations with Lisa Morgan (0-2), Chara Laverty (0-1) and Orla Fegan. The Down ladies mounted numerous attacks but poor finishing was to cost them dear as five point attempts drifted wide of the Tipperary posts.

Downs full back line of Niamh Canavan, Colleen Magee and Ciara OHiggins were defending well while Clara Fitzpatrick (0-1) was getting good possession at mid-field. Further Down pressure saw Tipperary concede a penalty when Kyla Trainor was heavily tackled in the square. Luck was out for Down as the resulting kick went just wide of the post.

Tipperary upped their game and over a ten minute period cut through the Down defence getting in close for three goals, giving Kerr -Ann Magee no chance between the posts. Downs back line was further weakened when Ciara OHiggins was stretchered off after sustaining a knee injury.

Half time score Down 0-4 Tipperary 3-3.

The second half saw both sets of backs dominating with both the Down And Tipperary forwards only managing three points apiece during this half.

Kathryn Boden, Niamh Magowan and Sinead Fegan were controlling the half back line with sub Aine Curry also playing well. U p front Aine Hardy, Emma Mulhern and Grainne McClean (0-1) all tried to break down the solid Tipperary defence.

Katie Farrell was having a steady game in goals while Eimear Kane , Clare Byrne and Kira Turly all worked hard when introduced.

Down’s Natasha Ferris got Down’s last point to leave the final score

Tipperary 3-6 Down 0-7
