Bord Gáis Energy Ladies Football Teams of the League Announced

Widespread Recognition of Talent as 28 Counties Represented

The Bord Gáis Energy Teams of the League have been announced at an awards ceremony at Croke Park. This joint initiative from Ladies Football and Bord Gáis Energy recognises the players who excelled during the league campaign across all four divisions.

60 players from 28 different counties were selected as the best performers from Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 and each player was presented with a specially commissioned kit to mark their achievement.

The players were selected by opposition team managers and referees over the course of the league season.

In Division 1, champions Cork lead the way with four players selected including inspirational full back Angela Walsh. But the West is clearly alive with five selections in total, two from beaten finalists Galway, captain Emer Flaherty and Caitriona Cormican while Mayo secured three spots in the selection.

Tyrone boast two representatives in Neamh Woods and Joline Donnelly, while Dublin, Kerry, Monaghan and Laois all claimed a single representation each.

Division 2 champions Donegal secured three places on the second tier selection but Armagh are rewarded with five representatives, including a clean sweep of the half back line in Meabh Moriarty, Caroline O’Hanlon and Sinead McCleary.

Beaten finalists Kildare can also be content with their showing having secured two spots, while Meath, Clare, Sligo and Tipperary are all represented.

Cavan deservedly took five of the places available in the Division 3 selection having come through the league season unbeaten. Centre back Ailish Cornyn, midfielder Claire Murtagh and forwards Pamela Crowe, Bronagh Sheridan and Aisling Doonan all make the selection.

The Division 4 final was contested by Limerick and Leitrim and their achievements this year have resulted in eight selections between them, with Limerick taking five. The rest of the selections are shared between Louth, Antrim, Offaly and Kilkenny who are represented by centre forward Angela Kenneally.

Speaking at the announcement Pat Quill, President of Ladies Gaelic Football said, “This is a fantastic initiative and I would like to thank both Bord Gáis Energy for continuing to support the Teams of the League awards. I would also like to thank the managers and the referees and all those within the association who have made the Teams of the League possible. While our games are fundamentally all about a team ethos, it is always important to recognise and reward excellence and the Teams of the League allow us to do that across all four divisions.”

Ger Cunningham, Sports Sponsorship Manager of Bord Gáis Energy, said, “First of all I would like to offer my congratulations to the 60 players who have been selected on the Bord Gáis Energy Teams of the League. While they will all no doubt deflect attention back on to their team mates and their management teams, they should take great pride in being selected and it is a reflection of their commitment to not only their county teams, but also their clubs, their families and ladies football in general.

Finally, the selection of the Bord Gáis Energy Teams of the League marks the end of another hugely competitive and entertaining league campaign and I would like to congratulate all of the competing counties but in particular Cork, Donegal, Cavan and Leitrim. It’s been a terrific year and we at Bord Gáis Energy are already looking forward to next year’s campaign.”

Cork manager Noel O’Connor was presented with the Manager of the Month award for May for guiding the Rebelettes to their third consecutive Division 1 title while Donegal’s Michael Naughton was unveiled as the Manager of the League for his role in securing Donegal’s first ever national league title.
