Bray win the inaugural Alison Davis seven-a-side tournament

With the county and clubs idle this week due to the state exams, Bray Emmets seized the opportunity to host their inaugural Alison Davis seven-a-side tournament. A wonderful day of football was an excellent tribute to the young Bray and Wicklow player whose premature death four years ago robbed the county of one its future stars. There was some fantastic football played on the day. Although the idea of the tournament was as a fun day out with senior and junior teams meeting for the only time in the season, there was a definite streak of fierce competition. In the end Bray Emmets were victorious in the cup after a marathon final against Blessington, and Clara took home the shield. There was no official player of the tournament awarded, but Clara’s Maria Hogan, Kilbride’s Mia Skelly and Éadaoine Lenihan and Aoife Heffernan of Bray stood out. Great credit is due to referees John Doran, Gerry Corbett and Dominic Leech and organizer Ronan Matthews for an excellent tournament. The Wicklow team play their third match in the Leinster championship against Carlow on Sunday next in Valleymount at 12pm.
