Brookborough capture U-16 League Title

U16 B League Final Newtownbutler 3-05 Brookborough
5-10

A exciting encounter from the start, Brookborough young guns had
played some fantastic football in reaching the final and Newtown
were going to have to be in top form to stop them. With the game
five minutes old it was Brookborough Aoife Moane who strong running
with the ball managed to open the scoring with a long range shot
to the back of the net. It was the Brookborough side who got off
to the best possible start and were in control throughout much
of this game. Superb fielding and work rate was on show by Sara
Teague team captain and she progressed her teams lead with a point
from play and one from a free.

Brookborough U-16 League Champions

The Brookborough ladies were well in command in
the first half with Newtownbutler registering a solitary point
in the 23rd minutes from Danicia Bettie. Newtown had two goal
chances in the first half but lacked strength and fire power in
front of goals. The scoreboard at half time read in favor of Brookborough
2-03 to 0-01. The second half the Newtown girls came out fighting
and were first to register a point from centre half forward Caoimhe
Swift, this was quickly cancelled out by a goal from Aoife Moane.
Play was not flowing from end to end with both teams exchanging
points. Newtown’s now applying the pressures won a free and Swift
lobbed a high ball into the square which found its way to the
net. This was Newtown’s best period of the game the first fifteen
minutes, Bettie registering a great point from a 30yard free and
centre half back Ellen Beggan pushing forward to point from play.
Brookboro did continue to peg points from captain Teague and full
forward Nuala McManus. Twelve minutes played Newtown number twelve
Amey O’Reilly struck for goal and raised the green flag. Yet it
was the strength of the girls in red and black who tagged on a
goal and three point over the next ten minutes of play Moane,
McManus and the young Anna Boyle advancing their team. Newtownbutler
were again guilty of missing chances in front of goal yet their
forward were putting in some eye-catching displays but found it
difficult too make them count, wing half forward Maura McDonnell
was excellent and showed great skill and flair on the ball.

Newtownbutler U-16 League Finalists

Brookborough work rate off the ball was a delight
too watch, Caoimhe McManus and Cathy Boyle was involved in gaining
vital possession for their team. The Newtown girls did manage
too work a goal in the 26th minute from O’Reilly and Shannon Courtney
registered their last score, a point from play with three minutes
left. Brookborough finished strong and showed their class with
a well worked goal from Sara Teague who was excellent over the
course of the hour and deservedly lifted the league title and
player of the match award. Brookborough strength all over the
field was the key, Newtown failed too register scores in the first
half and paid the price. Brookborough were pushed all the way
in the second half and the Newtown girls matched then on the scoreboard
with 13 point each but the damage had been done in the first half,
an eight point lead too much to claw back. A great game off football
on show by both team and many stars of the future.
