Carlow's Clíodhna Ní Shé is the new leader in the race for the ZuCar Golden Boot award

CARLOW forward Clíodhna Ní Shé is the new leader in the race for the inaugural ZuCar Golden Boot award, which will be presented to the top scorer in the 2021 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championships.

Carlow may have exited the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship at the semi-final stage last Sunday, after extra-time against Antrim, but Ní Shé still managed to collect 3-5 during the course of a brilliant individual display.

And that haul was good enough to overhaul Armagh’s Aimee Mackin at the head of affairs.

Ní Shé’s total of 9-19 (46 points) is now six clear of Mackin (4-28 – 40 points), with Wicklow’s Marie Kealy (0-35) and Westmeath’s Sarah Dillon (4-17 – 29 points) in third and fourth place respectively.

Kealy is 11 points off the pace set by Ní Shé, and the Wicklow player would need a brilliant TG4 All-Ireland Junior Final performance against Antrim on Sunday, September 5, to claim in the individual accolade.

Dillon also needs to shoot the lights out in Westmeath’s Final against Wexford to stand a chance, as she’s currently 17 points behind Ní Shé’s total.
