Cavan beat Down in Ulster Minor Championship Cavan 4-17 Down 0-06 Cavan accounted for Down in the Ulster minor ladies football championship on Tuesday last with a comprehensive win in Newry. Knockbride player Emma Clarke helped her team with a personal scoreline of 1-07 in a game that saw the Breffni women dominate from the throw-in. Ailish Cronyn opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a goal and this was followed up by a point from Aisling Traynor. Emma Clarke then scored 1-05 without reply before Eireann Gallligan added her name to the scoresheet with a well taken point. Cavan’s midfield partnership of Bronagh Sheridan and Elaine Reilly were controlling the play from the centre of the field, thus supplying the forwards with plenty of ball to leave the scoreline at half time 2-11 to 0-02 in favor of Cavan. Emma Clarke opened the scoring in the second half for Cavan before Ailish Cronyn notched up two more points to add to Down’s woes. Niamh McGlade and Laura Shaughnessy were introduced and McGlade wasted no time as she rounded the defense to score a point. Then Cavan got two more goals, the first from Aisling Doonan a rocket of a shot leaving the Down goalkeeper with no chance whilst Ailish Cronyn added to her tally for the day. The Cavan Manager will be happy with a win on his team’s first outing on their championship campaign. For Cavan Joanne Moore at full back played well and always controlled her back line. Cavan dominated the middle of the field while up-front, Aisling Traynor, Emma Clarke and Aisling Doonan proved a scourge for the Down defense throughout the hour.
