Trudy Kierans Memorial Cup Final Monaghan U16 2-07 Cavan U16 2-14 On the 10th anniversary of Trudy Kierans Cavan claimed the cup at St Tiernachs Park on Saturday after an exciting encounter with neighbours Monaghan. Emma Clarke from Knockbride was the hero for the Breffni girls when the young star scored eleven points, eight coming from play. Cavan led from the whole way after Clarke hit the opening point of the game on two minutes. A goal on 16minutes from Julieanne Brady helped them to a 1-08 to 1-03 interval lead with Maureen West getting the Monaghan major. The home side battled back well in the final quarter and came back to within five points at one stage. The mini rival began with a goal from Catriona McConnell and with points from Hazel Kingham and Michelle Kierans they made a competitive battle to get right back into the game. However player of the match Clarke had other ideas and with a further two points Cavan ran out seven points winners and deservedly taking the Trudy Kierans memorial cup.
