Trudy Kierans Memorial Cup Final

Monaghan U16 2-07 Cavan U16 2-14

On the 10th anniversary of Trudy Kierans
Cavan claimed the cup at St Tiernach’s Park on Saturday
after an exciting encounter with neighbours Monaghan.
Emma Clarke from Knockbride was the hero for the Breffni
girls when the young star scored eleven points, eight
coming from play. Cavan led from the whole way after
Clarke hit the opening point of the game on two minutes.
A goal on 16minutes from Julieanne Brady helped them
to a 1-08 to 1-03 interval lead with Maureen West getting
the Monaghan major.

Cavan continued to make all the running
in the third quarter that seen them stretch their advantage
to eleven points with Ailish Cronyn getting a second
goal and some fine points from Aisling Doonan, Bronagh
Sheridan and Clarke. The home side battled back well
in the final quarter and came back to within five points
at one stage. The mini rival began with a goal from
Catriona McConnell and with points from Hazel Kingham
and Michelle Kierans they made a competitive battle
to get right back into the game. However player of the
match Clarke had other ideas and with a further two
points Cavan ran out seven points winners and deservedly
taking the Trudy Kierans memorial cup.
