Cavan U-16s go down to Tyrone Cavan 2-07 Tyrone 5-11 By Ray Brady Cavan ladies U-16 team were beaten well by Tyrone on Monday last in the U16 Ulster championship. Tyrone got off to the better start and with fifteen minutes gone were already up by three goals from Aisling O’Hare and Aileen Hackett. But Cavan rallied in the last ten minutes and a super goal from Karen Reilly and points from Jenny Fitzpatrick and Renee Murphy left the score at the interval Tyrone 3-07 to Cavan’s 1-05. The second half really belonged to Cavan as they applied all the pressure but yielded very little results. Tyrone on the other hand were clinical with their scores once they got the ball into their half of the field and further goals from Sarah Connelly and Rebecca McCreesh left the comeback too much for Cavan. Cavan’s only consolation was a goal from Jenny McGuigan who played well when introduced. Despite the large difference in scores the game was played at an extremely fast pace with the Breffni ladies having as much procession as the northern visitors. The Tyrone forwards always had the sharper edge and with Sarah Connelly playing well at centre half forward is one to watch for the future. Cavan tried hard up to the final whistle and despite playing without some key players out with injury will be happy to have put in a hard fought battle. Cavan now travel to Derry where a win is a must if they are to advance to the next round of the competition. Tyrone is left with a game against Monaghan where the Farney girls must win if they are to force a play off in the group.
