Division One The Banner 9 – 12 Wolfe Tones 2 – 2 In a match played in Shannon, senior league newcomers Wolfe Tones were given a taste of what to expect in the top flight of Clare ladies football when given a thorough lesson in the finer aspects of the game by an uncompromising Banner side. Both teams were short a few regulars but the Ennis team with county stars Louise Henchy and Niamh Keane to the fore easily brushed aside the newcomers challenge. Impressive forwards Mary Higgins and Niamh O’Dea notched up 3 – 1 and 2 – 4 respectively for the winners while Stephanie O’Regan scored 2 – 1 for the losers. Miltown 2 – 7 Cooraclare 1 – 8 Last year’s league finalists and great rivals Miltown and Cooraclare again produced a close encounter in this thrilling opening match of the 2007 season. Miltown confirmed their November league final form over the sky blues and edged ahead to score a narrow but deserved two point victory. Expect to see both these teams well in contention at the final stages of this year’s league. Fergus Rovers 4 – 5 Coolmeen 1 – 6 Newly promoted Coolmeen also found the going tough in the top flight when going under to a superior Fergus Rovers team. The Rovers were always in control of this match played in Coolmeen and were well worth their eight points win. Coolmeen seem to have a lot of work to do if they are to be competitive at this level of football especially when the championship comes around. In contrast Fergus Rovers already have the look of a team expecting a big season this year West Clare Gaels 0 – 16 Crusheen 3 – 6 Neither side deserved to lose this thrilling encounter but eventually the points went west in this closely fought encounter. County captain Majella Griffin was probably the difference between the two sides and although defeated, Crusheen will take great confidence from their fine performance in this game. Division Two Liscannor 3 – 5 Kilmihil 0 – 8 Goals win matches and this proved true for Liscannor in this entertaining division two encounter played in Mullagh. Both sides did well in this game and both teams will have aspirations of being there at the business end of the league. Share this Article 0 0
