Clare Inter – County U – 12 Blitz in St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield, Gurteen, Ennis. Date: Saturday, November 4th, 2006. All roads lead to Gurteen, Quin Road, Ennis next Saturday for the annual Clare Ladies Board Inter – County U – 12 blitz. Counties participating this year will be Down, Sligo, Dublin, Kerry, Waterford, Laois, the defending champions Galway and host county Clare. It promises to be a great sporting occasion and an excellent opportunity for the young footballing girls of the participating counties to showcase their talents in playing the game. While the main emphasis of this tournament will be the fun element of playing the sport of ladies football – all participants will receive a commemorative medal for participating – there will also be a slight competitive edge to proceedings with three finals to be played for. The draw for the tournament placed Galway, Clare, Down and Kerry in Group A and Dublin, Sligo, Laois and Waterford in Group B. All teams will play against the other teams in their respective groups on a league basis with the top two teams in each group to qualify for the A final, the second teams in each group contesting the B final and the third two teams in each group meeting in the C final. All games will be thirteen minutes per half with extra time in the finals only if teams finish level. Proceedings get underway in Gurteen at 9.30 am with the official registration of all the competing counties. The opening games in both groups will commence at 10.00am with Clare meeting Down in Group A and Laois playing Waterford in Group B. Adding to the atmosphere of the day will be the presence of the Tulla Pipe Band who will lead a parade of all participating teams prior to the finals. The McGrath Limestone Quarries C Final and the Sherwood Inn Restaurant B Final are both scheduled for 2.45pm and these finals will be followed by The Lyons Coach Tours A Final at 3.30pm. Following the finals there will be a closing ceremony with the presentation of medals and trophies. Admission to Gurteen on Saturday will be €5.00 and all gate proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research.
