Doora / Barefield Clare Ladies U-12 Championship Grading Blitz

Doora / Barefield ‘A’ 0 – 1 Éire Óg 2 – 3

Banner Ladies ‘A’ 2 – 3 Éire Óg 1 – 1

Doora / Barefield ‘A’ 1 – 1 Banner Ladies ‘A’ 0 – 3

Banner Ladies ‘B’ 12 – 5 Doora/Barefield ‘B’ 0 – 0

Inspite of the inclement weather conditions (which included rain, hail, sleet, sunshine and thunder) the Under 12 girls of the three clubs involved in this county championship grading blitz continued to enjoy a great mornings football (of note – a major men’s soccer match a half mile down the road was abandoned due to the hail shower through which the girls played on) and served up some great competetive games to whet the appetite for the season ahead.

No doubt about it but the standard is rising and great credit is due to all the work the coaches are putting into ladies football at this foundation level. The skills on exhibition in Gurteen on Saturday would put many a GAA underage team to shame (superb high fielding, blocking down and point scoring from play) and of major significance was that the Banner Ladies ‘A’ team suffered only their second defeat in the last five years when going down by a point to Doora / Barefield in a thrilling game.

The Banner Ladies and Éire Óg also played out a thrilling encounter as was the game against Éire Óg and Doora / Barefield. Crusheen withdrew at the last minute from this grading competition and the Banner Ladies ‘B’ team proved far too strong for a spirited Doora / Barefield ‘B’ side.

All bodes well for the future of Clare Ladies Football if one is to judge the fare on offer this Saturday. Well done to all concerned.
