Clare .v. Offaly All Ireland U - 14 B

Match Report of Clare .v. Offaly All Ireland U – 14 B Football
Championship Quarter Final

Venue: Ballinasloe
Referee: Gerry Guinan, Galway

Clare 11 – 20 Offaly 1 – 2

The scoreline says it all. This was a complete mismatch
and the Clare girls were simply in another class compared to hapless
Offaly. Once Clare opened the scoring with an Ailish Considine point
after seven minutes the floodgates literally opened and one could
not but feel sorry for the Offaly girls. The recently crowned All
Ireland champions from the Banner Ladies club had their county representatives
in sparkling form and between the ninth and fifteenth minute Niamh
O’Dea, Megan Hough and Eimear O’Connor had bagged 1 – 4 between
them. Already the game looked over as a contest and Offaly had great
difficulty breaking out of their own half and even when they did
they were rebuffed by staunch Clare defence in the shape of Sarah
Bohannon, Aoife Murphy and Laura Brennan.

That Clare led by 8 – 15 to 0 – 0 at half time sums up the game
and even when they introduced all their substitutes early in the
second period it did not affect their dominance in any way as
they outscored Offaly 3 – 5 to 1 – 2 in this half. It was a relief
to see the Faithful county put some scores on the board near the
end as one felt truly sorry for them in the drubbing they were
receiving.
