Clonakilty Celebrate All Ireland success Clonakilty Ladies Celebrate Division 3 League & Junior County, Munster & All Ireland Victories Clonakilty Ladies Football , last night February 13th celebrated a terrific year for the club. Their first trophy of the season was the Division 3 league trophy . This was obviously just a warm up for the Clonakilty girls as they got a taste of success and their commitment to Ladies football yielded the seasons rewards as they first captured Cork , then Munster & finally the All Ireland Junior Championship.The night began with a drinks reception in the reception of the wonderful Quality Hotel , Clonakilty. Local press was on hand to capture the ladies who were definitely the “ belles of the ball” , everyone as glamorous as the next . With the call for dinner the 140 guests were guided to a room decked out in the green & red of Clonaklity , with special football decorations adorning the players tables. Guest speakers on the night was Clonakilty own Town Mayor who also wore the hat of West Cork Chairman & Ladies Club PRO Anthony McDermott, Brian Enright Cork Ladies Football Chairman & Dan O Mahony , Munster President- however the guests of honour who received a standing ovation were the 30 members of the Clonaklity Junior Ladies Football team. Attendees were treated to an excellent meal served by some top quality staff who catered for the requirements of all present so professionally. After the main course the meal paused for the previously mentioned guest speakers with both Dan & Brian congratulating Clonakilty on their achievements of 2009 & on accepting their higher Junior Grade for last season’s championship & also accepting promotion to the Senior Championship for 2010 , where Dan admitted Donoughmore will be very wary of the new comers. Presentation of medals followed immediately after the meal, and the guest presenter on the night was their own Eileen Collins ( O Brien) who in return received a “ special “ presentation from the club. Clonakilty ladies club also honoured their club secretary Mary Finn as well as their Club Treasuer with bouquet of flowers. As it was Valentines weekend a special engagement presentation was made to Siobhan Lyons & her fiancé. Beaulah Mc Manus as captain of the team said how 2009 was a truly special year for her as captain of her “ family” & thanked the girls for all their hard work & commitment throughout the year. She then called on Denis Enright , team trainer to receive a special presentation on behalf of the players.
