Fixtures Round 1. 25th April Mayo (h) v Galway 26th April Sligo (h) v Roscommon Connacht U – 14 Championship The Final round of this year’s U – 14 Championship will take place this coming week with Galway entertaining Sligo on this Thursday evening 24th April in Tuam Stadium at 7pm and Mayo facing Leitrim on Saturday 26th April in what will be a real match of the day or winner takes all contest. One would be forgiven for thinking that the game in Tuam on Thursday evening is very much a case of a dead rubber encounter when one considers that both counties will come face to face again on Friday 2nd May also at a Galway venue. Following their victories on their travels last weekend both Galway and Sligo are assured of a place in the A Final as both have 100% records going into this clash. It’s a game that probably will give both Counties a chance to try out a number of players in their respective panels who may not have received a chance to date of doing so. The other game however is a real home dinger as Mayo and Leitrim will be going all out to rescue their season at this grade. With Roscommon already safely into the B Championship Final, the Mayo/Leitrim is without doubt a winner takes all contest. Indeed were the game to end in a draw it would probably be the Red and Green of Mayo that would make their exit as the Leitrim Scoring static’s are a little better. Connacht Minor Championship This weekend will also see the commencement of the Minor Championship with Mayo entertaining defending Champions Galway and Roscommon traveling to the Yeats County to take on the home county.
