Cooley Ladies defeat Stabannon

Cooley Ladies proved themselves to be back on form after defeating
Stabannon in the county championship semi-final on Sunday evening
last. After a hard fought match in St. Joseph’s grounds, Dromiskin,
Cooley came off the victors by five points.

The first half saw Stabannon get off to a flying start notching
up a number of points from Tara and Kim Lynch and a goal from
Jenny McGuinness. At the other end points from Lyn Savage, Patricia
Marmion and Rita McAshane kept Cooley close behind. However, with
Cooley slow to get out of the blocks Stabannon were the happier
team at half time, leading by a goal. But the second half saw
the Cooley Ladies increase the pace of the game and show their
experience. Excellent defending from Karen Kane, Caroline Hanlon
and Ruth Rafferty halted the Stabannon attack.

A goal from Cooley captain Catherine Magee followed by some excellent
shooting by corner forward Lyn Savage saw the Cooley Ladies advance
to the final once again.

Naomh Malachi now await Cooley in the final on Sunday next, the
26th of August.
