Cork PP Schools 1st Yr Blitz Finals 06 The Cork Post Primary Schools ladies football 1st yr blitz was held in Lackabawn last Wednesday(26th). 18 teams took part in the competition with each school playing two first round games before the creation of 4 sections. In section A St Mary’s Charleville defeated Mt St Michael’s Rosscarbery. The teams were all sq up to the final minutes before the Charleville girls cracked in 3 goals in as many minutes to set up a final show down with Colaiste an Chroi Naofa,Carraig na bhFear. The Carraig girls had beaten Loreto,Fermoy in their semi final 3.01 to 1.02. The final proved to be an exciting affair with little between two very even sides. Sinead Dilworth stole the show for Carrig scoring 2.03 when ably assisted by Michelle Healy, Coleen Foley & Megan Brickley. Final score 2.04 to 2.03 in favour of Carraig na bhFear. In Section B Colaiste an Toirbithe A Bandon proved too strong for St Mary’s Mallow in the first semi final while St mary’s Macroom had to battle all the way against Schull Comm School. The Macroom girls emerged victorious in the final on a scoreline of 4.05 to 2.04. In Section C Colaiste an Phiarsaigh Glanmire & Scoil Mhuire Kanturk won through to their final defeating Mery Heights Skibbereen & Colaiste an Toirbithe B respectively. This was the closest final of all demanding extra time. In the end the fitness of the Glanmire girls shone through and they went on to record a fine win on a score line of 3.06 to 2.07. In Section D Presentation Sec Ballyphehane proved to be the surprise packet when , despite losing their two first round games, defeated both North Mon & Colaiste Mhuire,Cobh to earn a place in the final. Christ the King SS Turner’s Cross ensured an all city final when they defeated Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig in their semi final. The Turners Cross girls were victorious in the final but all credit to the Ballyphehane girls in this their first ladies football competition. The organizers look forward to many more new schools taking part in the competition next year.
