Cork u 14 Feile Final Match report

Cork u 14 Feile Final

Liscarroll 1.03 Donoughmore 1.01

County u 14 champions Liscarroll emerged victorious in a hard
fought u 14 feile final played at Donoughmore on Wednesday evening.
Both teams gave their all in a pulsating 30 minutes of football
where no quarter was asked or given.

The first score of the game came via the boot of Liscarroll centre
forward, Yvonne O’Callaghan, who found herself unmarked on the
edge of the large parallelogram after great approach work from
Denise Cronin and Ciara Sherlock. The Liscarroll player did not
hesitate and drove the ball into the top left hand corner of the
Donoughmore net. The Donoughmore girls refused to let this early
score unsettle them and driven on by great work from captain and
centre back, Emma Kingston, the ball was quickly worked down the
field to full forward Rebecca Kearney. She saw her first time
shot superbly saved by the feet of Liscarroll goalkeeper Lisa
Brosnan who put the ball out for the a 45. The resultant kick
from Rosie O’Mahony found Kearney and this time she made no mistake
planting the ball low into the corner of the Liscarroll goal.

Some great individual battles were taking place particularly
at midfield between Cork u 14 panelists Ciara Sherlock & Rosie
O’Mahony. The former players ability to run at the Donoughmore
defence saw Liscarroll pick up 3 quick points on the 13th, 14th
& 17 th minute courtesy of Yvonne O’Callaghan, Ciara Sherlock
& Laura Mullane The 2nd half saw both sides resume determined
to emerge victorious but in a half punctuated by stoppages for
injuries it was difficult for either side to gain a dominant hold.

Donoughmore did have opportunities to reduce the lead but found
the Liscarroll defence in a mean mood. A highlight of such defence
was seen in the 24th minute when Ciara Sherlock & Yvonne Kearney
put in successive blocks on Rosie O’ Mahony to deny the Donoughmore
forwards scoring opportunities. The Donoughmore midfielder had
an opportunity to level the game on the 30th minute from a 13
m free but watched in agony as her goal bound shot was turned
over the bar by Yvonne Kearney.

With that referee Dave Daly sounded the final whistle and Liscarroll
were through to their first All Ireland club feile finals.
