23 April 2013 Corkery is March Player of the Month Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! Mairead Corkery has been selected as the Croke Park Hotel Player of the Month for March. Mairead was a vital player for St. Mary’s Mercy Convent, Macroom as she helped propel her school to victories in both the TESCO HomeGrown All Ireland Post Primary School Senior B and Junior B finals and she picked up the Player of the Match accolade in the senior decider against St. Joesph’s Mercy, Navan. Mairead comes from a family that are steeped in ladies football as her sister is none other than current Senior Player of the Year, Briege Corkery. The Corkery name is in very safe hands as Mairead was accompanied by her niece, Aileen in the Junior victory over St. Joseph’s Rochfortbridge, an occasion made all the more special as Aileen captained the team and lifted the trophy. Cork are the dominant side in ladies football since 2005 thanks in no small part to the efforts of Briege Corkery but with players like Mairead and Aileen coming through the ranks there is no doubt that the future of Cork football is in safe hands.
