CORK’S 8-time TG4 All-Ireland senior medallist Annie Walsh is among the high-profile inter-county stars who will compete in the 2018 LGFA Interfirms blitz, which takes place at Naomh Mearnóg in Portmarnock on Saturday next, May 26. Walsh is a member of the AIB (Dublin) side looking to defend the crown won last year and she will be joined on the team by Limerick’s Dymphna O’Brien. AIB will face stiff opposition from Glanbia, An Garda Síochána, Mergon International, St Kevins CC, Dunlavin (Wicklow), the Irish Prison Service and Waterford Hospital on what promises to be a memorable day. Garda, who were narrowly beaten in last year’s final, can call upon the services of Westmeath’s Laura Brennan, Galway’s Johanna Connolly and Louth’s Grace Rogers. 2017 marked the LGFA’s very first Interfirms blitz event and Saturday’s second instalment promises to be even bigger and better. Walsh, who was a winner with AIB last year, said: “It’s definitely different – a lot of fun and craic was had on the day as well. “It was serious, too, and the final against Garda went down to the wire. “It was a great day out and a great way to meet people across the organisation. “AIB is a big organisation; I’m based in Cork, Dymphna’s in Limerick and the majority of people are based in Bank Centre in Dublin. “Susan Power, who I played alongside with Cork, was with the Prison Service last year and Mayo’s Martha Carter played with Garda. “So, it’s a great way to meet old and new friends. It was a great day out and great to come away with the win. “If you’re in it, you want to win it but we’ll have a lot of stiff competition, with a few new teams in the mix as well. “Hopefully we’ll go and perform, and see how we get on.” Seven companies will compete for the top prize while, in addition, 9 teams have signed up to take part in a recreational blitz. In this recreational blitz, the aim is that no matter what the level, experience or ability, teams will play lots of football, socialise with each other and have fun. The seven companies who will aim for LGFA Interfirms glory are as follows: Glanbia An Garda Síochána AIB, Dublin Mergon International St Kevins CC, Dunlavin, Wicklow Irish Prison Service Waterford Hospital The following 9 teams will take part in the recreational blitz: Glanbia Boston Scientific, Clonmel Baker McKenzie Pramerica, Donegal (x 2) Cadet School, Irish Defence Forces Irish Prison Service Pallas Food Baxter Healthcare (Mayo) Further information: Date: Saturday 26th May 2018 Venue: Naomh Mearnóg, Portmarnock, Co.
