The Padraic Pearses team Corofin (Galway) 4-16 Padraic Pearses (Ros) 2-7 The Ladies of Corofin qualified for a place in the A.I.B. Connacht club senior Championship final when they comprehensively defeated Padraic Pearses last Sunday in Corofin. Corofin dominated the first half with superb marksmanship and a wonderful style of football. Corofin’s Sheila Fitzgerald opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from a free followed by another from play. Helen Carroll, Jenny Molloy pointed one each and Una Carroll five before Pearses Stephanie Carty opened their account with a point from play on the 18th minute. On the 19th minute the first of four Corofin Goals came when Una Carroll layed of to an oncoming Sheila Fitzgerald only to slip it to the back of the net. Niamh Connolly pointed for Padraic Pearses followed by two from Stephanie Carty. Corofin’s Una Carroll replied with four and Jenny Molloy one. Half time score Corofin 1-14 Padraig Pearses 0-4. The second half started as the first finished with Corofin dominating proceedings a Goal from Helen Carroll and a point from Patricia Gleeson. A revival was hard to compile but Pearses continued to work and were rewarded with goals from Jenny Downey and Ursula Brooks and points from Stephanie Carty. Jenny Molloy and Sheila Fitzgerald finished the scoring for Corofin with great goals and points. Final score Corofin 4-16 to Padraic Pearses 2-7. Corofin overall played very good football with great displays from solid all round defence with superb fielding at mid-field from Patricia Gleeson and Diane Murphy and the supply from mid field was capitalised on in style by all the forwards but a special mention must go to Una Carroll who tormented the backs and amassed a personal tally of 1-10. Despite a good all round performance from Corofin a few concerns need to be looked into for next weeks final mainly the lack of finish in the second half. Padraic Pearses had a hill to climb in the second half but with their backs to the wall showed Great Spirit. Best for Padraic Pearses were Stephaine Carty, Ursula Brooks, Jenny Downey, Aishling Creighton, and Olivia Keogh. Corofin now play all Ireland Club champions Carnacon Mayo in the AIB Connaught Club Championship final at the Ray Prendergast memorial Park in Clougher next Sunday 26th October time 2.00pm.
