Crunch weekend for Kery Ladies

Crunch weekend for Kerry Ladies

The preliminary rounds of the Championship are taking
place around the country as counties jockey for pole position
for the group stages of the new look Ladies Football Championship.

Kerry are one side who are failing to translate their
early season form into the Championship season and could
now face a difficult task in securing a top seed position
and therefore avoid some of the bigger guns in the Championship
proper. Waterford, who beat Kerry last weekend, failed
to win a single match in the league but have now secured
a place in the Munster Final where they will take on the
winners of Cork and Kerry who play this weekend. This
will be the Rebelettes first fixture since losing to Mayo
in the League semi-finals.

In Connacht, Galway inflicted a defeat on Mayo three weeks
ago, but the League champions will be confident of securing
a top Championship berth despite this setback. Junior
Champions Sligo, who were promoted to the Senior Championship
this year, will find it hard to oust Galway and Mayo from
the top two seeding positions in Connacht and must beat
Galway this weekend to be in with a chance of making an
appearance in the Connacht final.

The Ulster Championship gets under way with the meeting
of Tyrone and Donegal at Newry this weekend but the Preliminary
rounds of the Leinster Championship do not kick-off for
a couple of weeks yet. Dublin and Armagh expected to dominate
proceedings in their respective provinces.
