Donaghmoyne through to Senior Club Final

Donaghmoyne
through to Club Final

Ulster club champions Donaghmoyne are through to the All
Ireland senior club final after beating Galway outfit
St. Brendan’s in Sunday’s semi final 2-7 to 0-9.

The Farney side lead 0-5 to 0-3 after the first quarter.
Karen Hall opened the scoring in the second minute and
then Catriona Mc Connell sent over four points in a row,
three of them frees. Niamh Lohan hit Brendan’s first point
in the tenth minute and this was followed by scores from
Melinda Kelly and Michelle Delaney. Entering the second
quarter Donaghmoyne’s Majella Woods found the net.

Brendan’s keeper Fiona Gilmore sent a poor clearance in
the direction of Amanda Casey and the Donaghmoyne midfielder
set up Woods for a super strike. Donaghmoyne then had
a chance to wrap the game up but Mc Connell’s rasper came
back off the crossbar. St. Brendan’s rallied and late
points from Delaney and Emma O Malley left just a goal
between the sides 1-5 to 0-5 at the interval. Donaghmoyne
had a dream start to the second half when Catriona Mc
Connell’s long range effort bounced in front of the St.
Brendan’s keeper to the top corner of the net with just
a minute on the clock.

A nice point from full forward Angela Lennon then put
the Ulster champions seven ahead. Like in the first half
St. Brendan’s rallied. Using the wind and a long ball
they notched four in a row from Gillian Joyce (2), Delaney
and substitute Deirdre Mannion. With three minutes to
go Catriona Mc Connell scored Donaghmoyne’s first score
for over twenty minutes to bring her tally for the match
to 1-5 but more importantly put two scores between the
sides. Donaghmoyne held on for an excellent win and will
now play either Donoughmore (Cork) or Ballyboden (Dublin)
in the final.

Those two sides drew after extra time and are due to replay
next Sunday.
