Donegal 2-3 Armagh 3-15

TG4 ULSTER LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL

Donegal 2-3 Armagh 3-15

Armagh sent out a warning to the rest of the country
yesterday with a fifteen point demolition of Donegal in Clones.
The hungrier and more experienced Orchard girls were good value
for their win.

Donegal opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Yvonne Mc Monagle
fired over. Armagh levelled in the 10th minute when Mags Mc Alinden
sent over a 30m free. That score was a wake up call for the orchard
girls and was followed up with another duo of points from Mc Alinden.
Midfielders Caroline O Hanlon and Alma O Donnell then added to Armagh’s
tally. The first goal of the game then arrived in the 15th minute.
A speculative Armagh shot came of the crossbar and veteran Patricia
Mc Evoy was quickest to react giving Donegal keeper Charlene Mc
Hugh no chance. Things then got worse for Donegal as a minute later
a Bronagh O Donnell rasper crept under the crossbar. Maureen O Donnell
sent over a free for Donegal in the 17th minute but this was quickly
cancelled as Mairead Tennyson fired over a free. Three minutes later
and Donegal then scored a goal of their own. Shelia Campbell latched
on to long ball and buried to the net to cut the deficit to seven
points. The Tir Chonnail delight quickly turned to despair when
defender Aoife Mc Donald was sin binned with seven minutes of the
half remaining. Armagh then punished Donegal hitting four unanswered
points from Mc Avoy, Mc Alinden, Tennyson and Sinead Mc Cleary to
leave the half time score Armagh 2-10 Donegal 1-2.

Donegal opened the second half scoring with Aoife Mc Donald firing
over after 4 minutes. Shauna O Hagan then became the seventh Armagh
player to score as she slotted over. Caroline O Hanlon then added
her second point to put Armagh ahead by twelve points. In the
eleventh minute Armagh full forward Dervla Toal rattled the net
and this score was followed with points from Mc Avoy, substitute
Aileen Matthews and midfielder Bronagh O Donnell.

With just three minutes left Donegal were awarded a penalty when
Karen Gutterie was pulled down but the spot kick was put wide
by Niamh Hegarty. Nadine Doherty did manage to find the Armagh
net when she struck soccer style after some good work by Hegarty
but it was too little too late and Armagh went on to comfortably
win by

fifteen points.
