Donegal Back In Final

TG4 All Ireland Junior Championship S/F
Donegal Back In Final
Donegal 3-09 Sligo 1-07

Donegal are back in the TG4 Junior All Ireland Final
for the second year in succession after seeing off the challenge
of a spirited Sligo side in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey.

It was far from impressive from the Donegal girls with the
Tir Conaill girls only registering a single point in the
second period. At half time they led by 3-08 to 1-03 but
were pushed all the way in the second and had Sligo forwards
made work of possession things could have been all so different
in the end.

Player of the match Maureen O Donnell got the scoring going
with three early points before Sligo found the range. A
converted penalty in the 15th minute by Sharon Horgan give
Sligo the lead for the first time by 1-02 to 0-04.

However the response from the eventual winners was immediate
and two goals within a minute from Sheila Campbell and Debbie
Lee Fox soon had the visitors on the back foot. Further
points from Francis Hoy, Campbell and O Donnell had Donegal
comfortably in the lead by the break.

The second half was much more scrappy with very little free
flowing football. Sligo had much more of the posession but
wasted opportunities and some good defending kept them out
for those much needed goals. They did manage to put a further
four points on the board from Karen Maloney, Stephanie O
Reilly and Horgan.

Meanwhile at the other end Donegal could only find the range
from Yvonne McMonagle in the 25th minute but they had did
enough in the opening period to advance to the final and
a meeting with Kildare.
