Down Ladies Club Junior Football Championship

Ladies Football Junior Championship (Carryduff v Teconnaught)

This match started off very competitively both sides trading points. For carryduff Erin Robinson, Aimee Lavery and Emily Duffy were playing strongly down the centre. Carryduff were dealt a blow in the opening stages when centre- half back Aine Molloy had to go off injured. Carryduff’s Susie Baxter was first on the score sheet sending over a point with Ciara Crosby and Aine Kerr adding two more to level the scores.

Carryduff got into the lead when Julie Coulter tapped into the net from close range. Teconnaught responded but were thwarted when Carryduff keeper Amy Hamill blocked from close range. Carly Fay, Orla McKay and Clare McGoran worked hard on the back line and with Amy Cunningham on top of her game the Teconnaught forwards found it difficult to penetrate the Carryduff defence.

Carryduff stretched their lead with points by Aine Kerr, Susie Baxter and Fiona McCauley. This left the half time score Carryduff 1-7 Teconnaught 0-3.

Carryduff dominated the second half with Siobhan Cunningham, Julie Coulter, Ciara Crosby, Fiona McCauley and Catriona Hynes all causing problems for the Teconnaught Defence. Amy Hamill was a safe pair of hands in the Carryduff goals pulling off a number of good saves while Aimee Lavery was outstanding at centre back. Erin Robinson dominated midfield and was well supported by Ciara Crosby.

Subs Sinead Farquarson and Megan Connery played well on their introduction.

The Carryduff ladies ran out convincing winners over this second period scoring four goals ,three from Aine Kerr and one from Susie Baxter , putting them into the semi-final of this competition next weekend.

Final Score Carryduff 5-9 Teconnaught 0-7
